About Schlok's Bagels & Lox
Bagels β’ Coffee β’ Sandwiches β’ Smoked Salmon β’ Catering. Our bagels are cold-proofed overnight, then boiled and baked on wooden bagel boards in a revolving tray oven. They are dense but fluffy. American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

i ordered delivery. i got the turkey avocado on an everything bagel, and just their daily special scallion-sesame bagel (wednedays). they do not skimp out on ingredients for their sandwiches. i appreciate that. also the bagels themselves were a lot bigger than i expected! the only note i have is that the bagels were kind of tough. wish they were softer i guess, and thatβs counting both toasted and untoasted bagels.

This native New Yorker gives these bagels 4 Caliornia Stars (with a nod to Billy Bragg) Schlock's delivery bag states " California bagels inspired by old-school techniques" which is true, this is not a NY bagel but it definitely has that fresh from the oven squishy softness with a hard, but not too hard, crust that makes that good bagel sound when you tap it :) I got 1/2 dozen fresh bagels delivered to my door under 30min on a Sunday morning. Sesame and plain are solid. Everything bagel has less seeds and savories that other Everything's out there (I'm looking at you Wise Son's!!) -- I like this restraint. Unlike a true New York bagel, Schlock's are fluffier, taller, and shockingly large. They are reminiscent of late-90's era Noah's bagels but these have more superior flavor and crumb since they're not mass-produced. I have to take 1/2 star off for their ridiculous size, and another 1/2 for packing the everything bagel along with my plains in the delivery. Bottom line, this super-sized caricature, is definitely a "California" bagel. One of the better ones!! Can't wait to try their cream cheese... and, I wish they had egg bagels on the delivery menu.

This place seriously exceeded my expectations. The bagels were fresh, perfectly chewy on the inside with that ideal slight crisp on the outside. You can tell theyβre made with care. The cream cheese options were actually flavorful (not bland like most spots), and the portions were generous. Staff was friendly and the service was quick even when it was busy. Definitely one of my new go-to breakfast spots.

Genuinely think this place has the best bagels in the city! Theyβre big, fluffy, and fantastic either as sandwiches or just with their (very good) cream cheese. But while their savory bagels are always coated to absolute perfection with seeds, onion, etc, you name it, their sweet bagels leave something to be desired. Very few raisins in cinnamon raisin and next to no blueberries in the blueberry. This has been my experience several times. The best thing about those kinds of bagels is getting a little bit of fruit in every biteβbut with these, you can go several bites without much flavor. Sometimes theyβre pretty much just plain bagels. Fix that, and itβs 5 stars from me.

If you're wondering why this place has a line, it's because the bagels are absolutely delicious. Incredibly well textured. The only thing that gets on my nerves a little is they charge almost $3 for schmear (opted for butter on one, I had cc at home anyway) and if you get bulk bagles, another .75 charge to cut the bagel!? Bruh. I can cut my own but what about older people or the tennis elbow crowd!? π no but seriously, that's annoying. Still love the bagles.
